Pixham School

Just read on Dorking Ad site that Pixham School is (again) under threat of closure.
Sad news but I suppose it is 'progress' . I was there from 1944-1947 with wonderful memories in spite of war and hours in the air raid shelter during which time we sang and chanted arithmetic tables ad infinitum because written work was impossible. The ironic thing is that the original records show that the school was opened in 1880 to avoid the children having to 'trudge' to the other end of the town (West Street). How many children walk to school these days?

  1. hi David. Ironic that you've brought our attention to this on the day that the government has signalled its satisfaction that fred the shred has reduced his pension to only 15 million or so. How long will we put ip with stories like these whilst watching our schools close? How long will we put up with rising taxes ( and locally, parking fees) whilst our elected leaders sneer at us whilst watching out local shops go to the wall. The man from the barbers hit the nail on the head. Get him in pippbrook pronto.
Rant over. I hope they do not close your old school and you can look at old photos dewy-eyes on your 80th birthday.
    Best wishes
    Alex
