I blinked, shook my head, but still it wouldn't go away, it was without doubt 'real', not a dream - just as well since I was driving at the time. A genuine police constable, sitting astride a mountain bike outside the new Carpetright store, complete with Police cycle helmet, etc.
Has anyone else had a sighting of this very rare specie, or perhaps he had lost his way, should I have stopped and offered to help? I saw it last week, Wednesday I believe.

Did he have a speed camera? Or maybe he was filming potential criminals (ie customers buying car accessories from Halfords).
ReplyDeleteHave heard our Neighbourhood Beat Bobby in Dorking has hurt his back and won't be back for three or so weeks. Maybe the Surrey Police are drafting in reinforcements to show they actually do patrol the town once in a blue moon! Saying that it seems our PCSO's are more interested in getting their weekly shopping done in Sainsburys that tackling the thugs who continually sit around the town looking for trouble.
ReplyDeleteTwo police cars in the High Street just before 6 pm yesterday (Thurs), one of which was parked on the zig-zags of the pedestrian crossing near the post office (that's an automatic 3 points isn't it?). Don't know what they were doing, but they seemed to be questioning a driver.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he had a brake-light out...
Police...you are having a laugh?? This town is full of young feral yobbos who are hellbent on getting drunk and high, causing trouble in the pubs, getting into fights, stealing, robbing and breaking into premises and the police (not the singular) response is do absolutely nothing. Our street is been suffering from the onslaught of mindless vandalism, broken glass, fights and thuggish behaviour for about six months...and the Surrey police still feel it is appropriate to send out a community support officer to take a statement each time. Does Dorking have any real full time coppers or are they hiding away in Redhill and Epsom??
ReplyDeleteThe Truth Hurts Dorking
Meant to say above -- (note the singular)..
ReplyDeleteThe Truth Hurts Dorking
I don't believe Dorking is any worse than anywhere else is it??
ReplyDeleteMust have been a strippergram :O) more chance of that than a real Policeman keeping the peace in the wild west of Dorking regretfully.
ReplyDeleteWell the other day a policeman was being shouted at by 1 bloke and then within 3 minutes there were 6 police people and 3 police cars...No further comment
ReplyDeleteShrewdSonja
Thats Surrey police for you safety in numbers !!!
ReplyDeleteUsually they send two of their plastic policemen while doing the shopping at the same time.
