Test

This is a test blog. The intention is to have a blog for the people of Dorking. I hope it works.

  3. There's one (well, actually there may be several) unfortunate spin-off from the Conservatives being elected for another term at County Hall last week; the same idiots within the Highways Department will be able to get back to wrecking Dorking again. Never can a small group have inflicted so much damage upon a town.

  4. Well done from me too, Dougie.
Your next task!...Get the Pippbrook Patsies to read this (i.e. the reasoned, non-abusive stuff.....hoping the other's been left behind with the Cockerel...it is sad about him though!) And once the PPs have read it explain, thro' the 'Ad' if preferred, why their 'policies' make more sense...to them. It's all very well us giving vent but what needs to be done to solicit direct answers?

  5. Dougie, have a look at the old blog (if you haven't already done so) there are a couple of people who are clearly having problems - you may be able to help them with a post there.

  6. Ok, if you can read this you should be able to leave a comment. If you want to start a topic, you'll have to sign in. Details on the old blog of how to do this.

  7. I have just left a message for the abusive poster on the old site. I am 70 and had no difficulty carrying out Dougie's simple instructions to get to this site.

  8. To everyone in Dorking.
It is now time to tell the councillors of both Mole Valley and Surrey County Council that it is now time for them to stop playing political games with our town.
Action must now be taken to meet the public and talk about ways to breathe life back in to our town before your in activity destroys one of the oldest market towns in the country.
Your total neglect is to be seen throughout the town.
You all knew this down turn was coming yet you increased car parking charges, permitted major roadworks to continue without looking what effect this would have on the town.
The town has been subjected to roadworks on almost every route for the last two years.
You were elected to make sure the town served its people but it looks as if you are only interested your grand position you hold.
Get out in to the real world and see what the businesses need to survive.
    We need urgent help now.
There are many how will not be here by christmas.

  9. Well said Leslie Gilbert!
Could not agree with you more. I run a shop at the east end of the High Street and things have never been so poor! I started a discussion about this marked "Parking".
It's heart-breaking and this council has shown its arrogance time and again. How dare they?
    Very peed off!

  10. Again Leslie I applaud your sentiments concerning our councillors. As I have commented elsewhere I feel the performance of those elected to "serve us" is woeful to say the very least. It does seem absurd to suggest (and I have been guilty of it) that because the MVDC is Conservative controlled and Dorking (town centre) has all LibDem councillors the Conservatives are indulging in some form of petty spiteful action against Dorking which takes the form of witholding funds that might help the town and its traders. Because I can't think of any other reason, and because of the total lack of response from MVDC's councillors who actually control the budgets, I'm begining to believe that perhaps they really are small minded enough to wish to see the town suffer.

I have also been a little disappointed with the Dorking Advertiser who show no great enthusiasm for getting involved in the question of what is happening and the need for councillors to come clean about the issue of Drking's survival as a retail centre. I know a local paper has to work with both the council and the councillors but the paper's shyness on this subject is pretty dismal.

  11. Has anyone been to see the presentation being held in St Martin's Walk asking for comment on what is needed to revive Dorking - sadly it ends today, Saturday 4/7.

I was amused by one written comment which said (words to the effect) "why are you asking us, you've asked the past and ignored our views"!

Personally I thought the proposal to redevelop the South Street Garden is likely to be a white elephant - where's the research that suggests it would bring in one extra penny to the town?
